Its predecessor likely set a world record for the longest distance traveled by a robot, so the new Wave Glider SV3 from Liquid Robotics has some big floats to fill. The SV3 is bigger and has more powerful solar panels, but it also generates kinetic energy from ocean wave motion. The most promise in the SV3, however, lies in its more advanced computing capabilities, which let it gather, process and transmit more data on the world's oceans than before.
